Design Ideas "Doodles Destination" Twin Towers

Doodles Destinations: "This miniature edifice is a hand tied and hand decorated sculpture in wire worthy of the most impressive desk, cabinet or dining table. Our distinctive hand-formed wire creations earn a contribution for a rural Chinese artisan community and assure you that you have received the original collective Doodles."
Design Ideas will donate ten percent of each Doodles Destinations Twin Towers sale to the World Trade Center United Family Group, Inc.

Another example of consumer good developed and sold with a tie 9/11, including a donation of the proceeds.

Penjoy Tribute Model Truck

Tribute model truck offered by Penjoy, a company offering collectible promotional models. This truck, titled "Attack on America" September 11, 2001, features the Twin Towers and Pentagon on the trailer. The top of the trailer states "United We Stand." The bottom of the truck cab relates that proceeds will go to: NY Firefighter Disaster Relief Fund; Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund; and Salvation Army Disaster Relief Fund.

It is interesting that there are a number of tribute trucks, which I have featured here in my collection. Overall, if it was a manufactured good, chances are that September 11th was reflected or influenced its production in one way or another.

Danbury Mint "Twin Towers" 9/11 Commemorative Figurine

I will be the first to say that this is a striking model, created by the Danbury Mint. This model is very detailed, and features a decorative plaque quoting President George W. Bush:

"We will not waver, we will not tire;
we will not falter; and we will not fail.
Peace and freedom will prevail."

The object is not unique in terms of being one of many examples of commemorative items (some of which I feature here in my collection). I do wonder the purpose of such an item. I would guess that someone who purchases this tribute would display it in their home. But there is more to this Twin Towers model. People buy this object to feel connected to the memory and event of September 11th. It makes the tragedy of 9/11 into a tangible, consumable object.

American Chopper's Fire Bike

Not a great picture, but everybody knows American Chopper and has seen their bike creations. This toy model is based on a motorcycle created as a tribute to the firefighters that lost their lives in September 11th. The bike features steel from the World Trade Center and the number 343 for the firefighters lost. You can watch the American Chopper episode here.

Re-Build the WTC

This "kit" from the International World of Toys offers a chance to rebuild the World Trade Center. "Rebuild our belief by ourselves." I believe the phrase they wanted was rebuild our belief in ourselves? Overall, an interesting object. It could be an activity for families to carry out. I can't imagine children putting this "toy" together, nor understanding the implication of the message of "healing." This is a common issue with toys that integrate September 11th, some of which I've posted here from my collection.

Rolling Tribute

One of my favorite objects, this model truck is a detailed replica of an actual semi-truck and trailer a MN truck driver created as a traveling memorial to September 11th. The model truck is detailed on both sides and even remote-controlled. The actual semi-truck is an example of the meaning September 11th took on for Americans everywhere, and the ways they connected with this tragic event. The toy replica is meant for those who can't own the real thing, and want their own rolling tribute. More thoughts to come on this object.

Here are some additional details about the story behind the actual truck that this was based on:

Their names are John & Amy Holmgren. They live in Shafer Minn. They thought this would be a nice tribute to the people that lost their lives. It has every name of each person that lost their life on 9-11. This concept was thought up by John and Amy, and totally paid for by them. John says he will be awhile paying the loan off that he had to take out to do it but, thought this was the least he could do. Applied Graphics in Fargo ND did most of the work and Paul Kosenski did the Hand painting. He said that he got to meet the Country Singer Darryl Worley, who Sang the song "Have You Forgotten" and has gotten pulled over 3 times by the police just to get their picture taken by this truck. (I would have pulled him over too!!) He plans on attending the Mid America Truck show in Louisville KY in March. I thought our employees may enjoy seeing the pics. It is called the Rolling 9-11 Memorial, it has all the names of the people that were killed on that day and the flights they were on plus some other graphics on the side of the Tractor.
