North Branch Volunteer Fire Co FIRE HOSE NOZZLE MUG September 11

Tribute fire hose nozzle shaped mug from North Branch Volunteer Fire Co (NY) in memory of September 11 victims (fallen brothers).  Also tribute to anniversary of the company.

Fire department tributes are very common regarding 9/11 material culture, but this mug is unique in shape (but probably not much for function).

Fire Company Brew: Taste the Pride

I always wondered if there was a 9/11 tribute beer out there, and I finally found it.  This Fire Company Brew was created by Philip (PJ) Schrantz, a retired NYC firefighter (Brooklyn).  He relates his story on each bottle and on the package.  Basically, he volunteered at the WTC site (where he lost friends) and when he returned home, he decided to pursue this idea as a way to give back.  The packaging and bottle relate that a portion of the proceeds benefit fire, police and volunteer construction workers.  The packaging also gives more specifics on the organizations being supported.  The beer was brewed at Matt Brewing Company in Utica (NY).  There is a website listed too, www.firecompanybrew.com, which is not active.

FDNY Rescue Heroes Toy

Billy Blazes FDNY Rescue Heroes special tribute and figure.  This toy is branded Fire Department of NY, and even features a letter on the package from the head of FDNY.  The letter speaks about the partnership between Toys R Us and FDNY, and the proceeds from the sale of this toy being donated to the FDNY's Education Fund (right on the front package too).  This toy again demonstrates the impact of 9/11 on all areas of material culture.  Furthermore, it is clear that 9/11 is the call action for purchasing/consuming this toy. This really is an amazing example, and something people will look back on in 100 years as documentation of the importance and impact of September 11th.

The Call of Duty was a series of short-lived Marvel Comics series featuring firefighters and emergency service workers dealing with paranormal phenomena in the Marvel Universe.

It was conceived in the wake of the 9/11 attacks and consists of three limited series (Call of Duty: The Brotherhood #1-6, by Chuck Austen and David Finch; Call of Duty: The Precinct #1-5, by Bruce Jones and Tom Mandrake; Call of Duty: The Wagon #1-4 by Chuck Austen and Danijel Zezelj) and a short unsuccessful run as an ongoing series in 2002-2003, that lasted four issues (by Chuck Austen and Pat Olliffe).
