"Remeberance Day Sept 11th 2001" Duck Decoy
Here is a tribute duck decoy by Patty Martin (signature) from Stoney Point Decoys. This decoy incorporates the American flag, and is red, white and blue. Another great example illustrating the widespread impact of September 11th. The impact and reflection of 9/11 through material goods is clearly significant.

Twin Towers Tribute: String Art

There are plenty of examples of corporate America's 9/11 tributes, but this simple mass produced string art tribute is unique. There are many examples Twin Towers handcrafted items that were available for purchase, but examples like this, where it is not company driven (like the Joann Fabrics tribute quilt) and the individual creates the example, are less frequent. The company or individual seems to based in Islandia, NY, but the item was produced in China. It is also difficult to see this as art, but as other examples have shown, it is all about marketing and sales here. Handcrafted doesn't have the seem appeal as "string art."

Silver Tribute Pin

Silver brooch Twin Towers tribute pin. Handcrafted by artist in Maine.
INFINITE HOPE Sterling Artisan Signed R. Lugosch Limited Series Pin Twin Towers
Ronna Lugosch Artisan Silver Pin Date Signed 9-11-2001
Description I was given about pin:
This is a lovely limited edition pin crafted by Maine artist/jewelry designer Ronna Lugosch. This sterling silver pin was designed by Lugosch and a clergy person just after the bombing of the Twin Towers in 2001 and part of the profits of the sale of this pin when it was originally released were donated to the relief efforts made on behalf of that event. Lugosch is very well known for her unique and inspirational jewelry which is crafted by the piece to this day. This pin is beautiful in its simplicity and is signed on the back 'Lugosch Simonds' which is the name of the artist and the last name of the clergy with whom Lugosch worked during the creation of this piece. At the top of the pin the piece is stamped 'Infinite Hope' and dated 9-11-2001. It is also stamped 'STER'. The Twin Towers are done in a cutaway design inside the oval in the middle of the pin. A truly collectible piece.

Henn Workshops Basket: A Prayer for Peace II "United We Stand"
A special tribute basket created by Henn Workshops. Named "A Prayer for Peace II United We Stand, it was created as a tribute to September 11th, and also as a way to raise money for the victims. The details sheet outlines the significance of the colors and design. A great example of a handcrafted item, and the influence of September 11th on all forms of material culture.

Native American tribute
This leather pouch with beadwork was created by a Native American artist. Handmade objects and artistic responses were wide-ranging to September 11th. I haven't focused on objects like these, but I do have a couple of examples. Museums have tended to collect these examples, as well as actual objects associated with the Twin Towers site and those who were directly impacted by it.

Re-Build the WTC
This "kit" from the International World of Toys offers a chance to rebuild the World Trade Center. "Rebuild our belief by ourselves." I believe the phrase they wanted was rebuild our belief in ourselves? Overall, an interesting object. It could be an activity for families to carry out. I can't imagine children putting this "toy" together, nor understanding the implication of the message of "healing." This is a common issue with toys that integrate September 11th, some of which I've posted here from my collection.

Flag Holder Tribute
A pattern for handcrafting your own flag holder, this object is a reflection on that famous World War II pose, but of course, the flag planting here is carried out by fire men.

McCall's Pattern
McCall's, long-time and well-known clothing pattern-maker, offered this patriotic collection with profits donated to the Twin Towers fund. Another supporting example of a company offering a product for sale to consumers using patriotism and a charitable incentive.
