DOGNY America's Tribute to Seach and Rescue Dogs

DOGNY was born out of the tragedy of September 11, 2001. DOGNY is the art project initiated by The American Kennel Club to benefit search and rescue dogs; it was immediately embraced by corporations, communities and individuals eager
to show their support for the dangerous and difficult work dogs and their handlers undertake on a regular and often voluntary basis. This book features the statues that were a part of the project- how they were painted, why they were painted, who painted them, who sponsored them, and where they were displayed. It is a book to treasure not only for the striking variety of the sculptures, but also for the impact of the message in paying homage to search and rescue dogs across our nation.

Twin Towers Tribute: String Art

There are plenty of examples of corporate America's 9/11 tributes, but this simple mass produced string art tribute is unique. There are many examples Twin Towers handcrafted items that were available for purchase, but examples like this, where it is not company driven (like the Joann Fabrics tribute quilt) and the individual creates the example, are less frequent. The company or individual seems to based in Islandia, NY, but the item was produced in China. It is also difficult to see this as art, but as other examples have shown, it is all about marketing and sales here. Handcrafted doesn't have the seem appeal as "string art."

Silver Tribute Pin

Silver brooch Twin Towers tribute pin. Handcrafted by artist in Maine.

INFINITE HOPE Sterling Artisan Signed R. Lugosch Limited Series Pin Twin Towers

Ronna Lugosch Artisan Silver Pin Date Signed 9-11-2001

Description I was given about pin:
This is a lovely limited edition pin crafted by Maine artist/jewelry designer Ronna Lugosch. This sterling silver pin was designed by Lugosch and a clergy person just after the bombing of the Twin Towers in 2001 and part of the profits of the sale of this pin when it was originally released were donated to the relief efforts made on behalf of that event. Lugosch is very well known for her unique and inspirational jewelry which is crafted by the piece to this day. This pin is beautiful in its simplicity and is signed on the back 'Lugosch Simonds' which is the name of the artist and the last name of the clergy with whom Lugosch worked during the creation of this piece. At the top of the pin the piece is stamped 'Infinite Hope' and dated 9-11-2001. It is also stamped 'STER'. The Twin Towers are done in a cutaway design inside the oval in the middle of the pin. A truly collectible piece.

World Trade Center Tribute Poster

Here is an artist's tribute to September 11th. The poster depicts the Twin Towers filled with representation pictures of the victims, while their names fill the rest of the space surrounding the Towers. Here is an explanation from the artist's website: http://www.exposedinblackandwhite.com/main.html

World Trade Center 9/11/01-0151
Unframed. 80lb vellum vinish, acid-free, archival paper. A signed and limited edition (1-2000), this poster is a tribute to the people who lost their lives at the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. When I watched the news reports of the terrorist attack I was stunned by the devastation, the fires, the confusion, the horror. As the days wore on and I walked the streets of New York I saw the photographs that had been tacked up on candle lit memorials, trees and telephone poles. Although the photographs were full of life, the awful truth was that everyone was dead. It is this profound loss of innocent lives and my own need to memorialize their lives rather than their deaths that moved me to create this poster. The buildings in the foreground are filled with representations of the faces of the men and women who had been in the buildings that fateful morning. In the background you can read the names of the men, women and children who were in the towers and in the planes that crashed into them and the gallant policemen and firemen who tried to save them. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to a victims fund and other charities.

Painted Slate Tribute

9/11 tribute painted on a piece of slate. Another great example of a tribute object incorporating American symbols (eagle, flags, colors and firefighters). The item features the classic fire fighter pose of raising the flag that was captured at the WTC site and now has been featured in print and every other format across the world.

9/11 Tribute Art

Here is a picture of a 9/11 tribute painting. I wanted to include an example, although 9/11 art is not a focus for my collection. There is a significant amount of such art.
