Stephen Colbert Invitation for September 11th Shopping Griefportunities

This is a bit tongue and cheek.  If anyone caught Stephen Colbert's piece in 2011 on Shopping Griefportunities, it was just scratching the surface.  I would invite Mr. Colbert to take a closer look at the numerous options for commemorating the upcoming 12th anniversary of September 11th.  Here's a quick list of suggestions for consideration (my favorites):

• Paint by Numbers Canvas (therapeutic and commemorative)  
• Terrorists Can Shake Our Buildings But Never Can Touch America's Foundation Sweater (great for Thanksgiving or Christmas)
• 9/11 Trading Cards ("Stack up the cards of every ball player, from the lowest overpaid benchwarmer to A-Rod and they wouldn't be worth one firefighter Manuel Devalle, Jr." quote from the box)
• Twin Towers Silverware (commemorative, yet functional, for your everyday dining)
• 9/11 pistol grips (nothing more to say)
• Rolling Tribute remote-controlled semi-truck (perfect for any kid)
• Twin Tower blades knife (probably not functional, but who really cares)
• Tribute Tissues (the cure for any cold)
• Maker's Mark tribute bottle (with red, white and blue wax)

It is fitting to end with Maker's Mark, who offered this tribute bottle shortly after 9/11.  Stephen, you liked the 9/11 tribute wine (I do own a bottle, but can't say I've tasted it), but you can't out due Maker's Mark.  I think this is a more fitting list for Shopping Griefportunities. 

Colbert Report Covers 9/11 Tribute Items: "Shopping Griefportunities"

Steven Colbert highlighted some 9/11 tribute items on the Colbert Report last night. He highlighted a handful of interesting items, but only scratched the surface regarding the extent and number of 9/11 related goods. As I have documented and discussed here, September 11th had a tremendous impact on consumer and household items, which were available for sale across the US. With the 10th Anniversary, we are seeing an influx of new items, but there have been such examples for the last 10 years. In fact, there are many odd and sometimes offensive items that I have collected and highlighted here. Regardless of the object (or motivation for creating it), this is an important part of American history that should be captured. Thank you to Steven Colbert for bringing some humor to a very sensitive topic.
